Our largest wine fridge in the Flow collection contains up to 46 standard Bordeaux bottles. It measures 82cm in height, 59cm in width, and 56cm in depth. In this collection, you’re certain to find the right wine cooler to fit into your kitchen seamlessly. Whether you prefer a slim wine fridge or a wide wine fridge, the Flow collection is easily the best place to find the perfect wine cooler for you.
When installing a wine fridge, be sure to avoid placing it next to other appliances that generate heat - for example, cookers, dishwashers, or washing machines. This is because the wine fridge compressor or cooling system will need to work harder to cool your wines. This can raise your electricity bill, and lead to your wine cooler overheating.
This type of wine fridge is convenient as it’s the ultimate location for wine storage - simply reach below your kitchen counter and grab a bottle of wine. What is the difference between under counter wine fridges and freestanding wine fridges? Read on to find out.
Under Counter Wine Coolers vs Freestanding Wine Coolers
There are three main types of wine coolers - built-in/ under counter wine coolers, integrated wine coolers, and freestanding wine coolers. Freestanding wine coolers are designed to be placed freely without being restricted to cabinet space or kitchen spaces. They aren’t designed to fit snugly into tight spaces due to the placement of the vents.
When installing freestanding wine coolers, it’s important that you leave enough space for the air to flow freely in and out of the vents. Around 12 inches of space is needed above the unit for optimal ventilation, as well as a couple of inches of space around the rear and sides.
Undercounter wine coolers - also known as built-in wine coolers - are designed to fit snugly into kitchen spaces. The vents are positioned so not much space is needed to accommodate a built-in wine fridge. You can place most under-counter wine fridges as freestanding wine fridges - but not the other way round.
Features of Built-In/ Undercounter Wine Coolers
Now you know what an under-counter wine cooler is and how it compares to a freestanding wine cooler, it’s time to learn some of the top features to look out for when browsing for the best under counter wine cooler. From humidity control to LED lighting, read on for some of the best features you can find in under-counter wine fridges.
Humidity Control
The wine coolers in the Dunavox Flow Collection feature humidity control. Your wine collection needs a little humidity to ensure that the cork remains moist - too little humidity can cause the cork to dry out and slip out of place. However, too much humidity can cause moisture to accumulate around the bottle, promoting mould growth and destroying the label. This is why our wine coolers work to regulate the humidity levels between 55% and 75%. Our modern wine coolers also feature electronic temperature controls, making it easier than ever to adjust the humidity and temperature of your wine fridge.
Wine Cooler Doors
Be sure to check out the doors before purchasing a wine cooler from the Flow collection. Some of our doors feature handles, whereas some of our coolers feature doors with touch to open technology. This makes it easier than ever to access your wine collection - simply tap the corner of the wine cooler door and grab a bottle. The under-counter wine coolers in the Flow collection feature glass doors that have been UV-treated. This is because the UV rays found in sunlight can damage your wine - affecting how well your wine ages, smells, tastes, and looks.
Dual Temperature Zones
Another key feature to look out for in our popular under-counter wine fridges is dual temperature zones. Dual-zone wine coolers and wine cabinets feature two temperature zones within the unit as opposed to just one single temperature zone. You may want to choose a dual wine zone cooler if you have a varied wine collection, or if you plan on storing some bottles for a long period of time and some bottles in the short term for serving.
Dual-zone wine coolers either contain two separate compartments within the unit, or a single compartment with two different zones within the compartment. This means that you can store your white wines and sparkling wines at the recommended temperature range of 8°C - 11°C, and your reds at a slightly warmer temperature of 12°C or 13°C. Single zone wine coolers are ideal for either short-term storage or long-term storage - not a combination.
LED Lighting
Our Flow Collection features under-counter wine coolers with LED lighting - which allows you to display your wine in the best way possible. The multi-LED lighting comes in amber, blue and white, allowing you to clearly view your wine in darker conditions.
